The Baby Carriers That Helped Me Survive the Velcro Baby Stage

Baby carriers make a huge difference — especially when you have a velcro baby.

Honestly, my baby carrier is what made a difference in my early postpartum journey.

And by “getting stuff done,” I mostly mean things like finally eating lunch, maybe reheating my coffee for the third time, and occasionally brushing my hair 😂

My baby was a total velcro baby. He wanted to be held constantly, and during those early months, I could really only do things if he was in the wrap with me.

I tried a few different baby carriers during postpartum, but there are two styles I personally recommend most:

  • A baby wrap
  • A traditional structured carrier

Today, I’m sharing my favorites from both categories and why I loved them so much as a postpartum mom.

My Favorite Baby Wrap: Solly Baby

You can get yours at: Solly Baby or Amazon

Type

Baby wrap carrier

Weight Limit

8 to 25 lbs

Why I Loved It

Lightweight & Breathable

This was huge for me.

As a mom who struggled with postpartum anxiety, knowing the fabric was lightweight and breathable gave me so much peace of mind.

Some carriers can feel thick, heavy, or overly warm — especially during postpartum when you’re already overstimulated and exhausted. This one felt soft, airy, and comfortable.

Easy to Use

I’ll be honest…
It did take me about 2–3 practice tries before I actually put baby in it.

But honestly, that was mostly me being extra careful and making sure everything felt secure 😂

Once I got the hang of it, it became part of our daily routine.

The Colors Are Beautiful

I also love the color variations they offer. They’re soft, neutral, calming, and honestly just aesthetically beautiful.

I loved mine so much that I recently gifted one to my sister-in-law for her new baby.

Amazing Customer Support

Their support was honestly incredible.

They provide:

  • Tutorials
  • Step-by-step help
  • Guidance on fit and positioning
  • Customer support if you need extra reassurance

As a first-time mom, that extra support mattered a lot.

The Wrap Doesn’t Dangle Everywhere

One thing I unexpectedly loved:
the wrap doesn’t drag all over the floor.

It comes with a little side pouch that stores the wrap, which made it much easier to manage and travel with.

My Favorite Traditional Carrier: Ergobaby

You can get yours at: Target or Amazon.

Type

Traditional structured baby carrier

Weight Limit

7-45 lbs

Why I Loved It

Machine Washable

This is SUCH a big plus as a mom.

Spit-up.
Milk.
Snack crumbs.
Sweat.
Mystery stains 😂

Being able to wash it easily mattered more than I expected.

Breathable

Again, super important for me.

I personally prefer carriers that don’t feel overly thick or suffocating, especially during warmer weather or longer wear sessions.

Easy to Adjust

One thing I really appreciated was how adjustable it was.

Once you learn the straps, it becomes very quick and easy to put on.

Grows With Baby

I love that it works from infancy into the toddler stage.

That makes it feel much more worth the investment because you get long-term use out of it.

Multiple Wearing Positions

Another huge plus:
you can wear baby in multiple ways depending on age and comfort.

That flexibility makes a difference as your baby grows.

Positions: Front carry, outward facing, back carry and hip carry.

Wrap vs Traditional Carrier: Which One Is Better?

Honestly? I think both serve different purposes.

Wraps Are Amazing For:

  • Newborn stage
  • Contact naps
  • Cozy bonding
  • Around-the-house babywearing
  • Lightweight comfort

Structured Carriers Are Amazing For:

  • Longer outings
  • Toddlers
  • Better back support
  • Travel
  • Quick on-and-off use

I personally used both depending on the season of motherhood I was in.

Lastly…

If you’re currently in the velcro baby stage, I see you 😂

Sometimes babywearing isn’t just about convenience.
Sometimes it’s survival.
Sometimes it’s emotional comfort for both you and baby.

And honestly?
Some of my sweetest postpartum memories happened while wearing my baby close to my chest.

Even now, looking back at those photos feels emotional 🤍
